Burla, Feb 15:
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla in a critical condition after he shot at himself with his service rifle in Odisha’s Deogarh in the wee hours today.
The critically injured jawan identified as BN Rao allegedly shot himself with his service rifle at around 4 am while he was in his barracks. Hearing gun shot, one of the fellow jawans--Abhimanyu Majhi—rushed to the unit and found Roa lying in a pool of blood on the floor.
He was rushed to Deogarh district headquarters hospital in a critical condition. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to VIMSAR.
Though the reason of the suicide attempt is yet to be ascertain, it is suspected that he resorted to such extreme step due to family related issues.
“An FIR has been filed by Sentry Abhimanyu Majhi that CRPF ASI BN Rao attempted suicide by shooting self with his AK-47 rifle at around 3.50 am. He fired four rounds of bullets of which two have entered his body. He has been shifted to VIMSAR in Burla in a critical condition,” Deogarh police station IIC Ratnakar Mallick said.
Further investigation is on to ascertain the reason why the jawan attempted suicide.
