Bhubaneswar: Several customers threw torn currency notes in front of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office in Odisha capital alleging that the bank authorities were not accepting the damaged notes for exchange.

Unusual scenes unfolded as the torn currency notes in denominations of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 500 were found lying in front of the office.

"We had come to exchange the damaged currency notes. However, the bank employees are not accepting those. We opposed it by throwing the notes in front of the office," a customer said.

On the other hand, the bank authorities said the counter for exchange of damaged notes has been closed since October 3.

However, the customers said that the bank hadn't issued any notice in this regard.

As exchange of words ensued between the bank officials and the customers, the Kharavela Nagar police reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
