Cuttack: The Twin City Commissionerate Police have cracked the case of murder of a 45-year-old woman at Odia Bazaar in Odisha’s Cuttack city and arrested two brothers in this connection.

Deceased B Gunabati was found dead with throat being slit inside her house on July 15.

The accused duo has been identified as Y Sunil and Y Sudeep of the locality. The two are neighbours of the woman.

Addressing a press conference here today, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said the accused brothers killed the woman while the two were stealing a laptop of the woman's son from her house as she opposed the act.

The police official also revealed the involvement of a 'prime conspirator' in the incident, from whom the two brothers had taken a loan of Rs 90,000. The 'prime conspirator' was demanding a repayment amount of around Rs 3 lakh as principal and interest combined.

On the other hand, the woman's son had an affair with a female family member of the 'prime conspirator'. He had some 'objectionable materials' of her in his laptop, said Mishra.

In a bid to get the device, the 'prime conspirator', who is also a resident of the locality, approached the brother duo with an offer of waiving the loan repayment amount if they fetched him the laptop, the DCP said.

As per the plan, the two brothers went inside the house of the woman while her husband and son were at workplace. As they took the laptop into their possession, the woman opposed it following which they killed her, the official added.
