Cuttack: The Mangalabag police have arrested four persons for allegedly duping two policemen of around Rs 10 lakh by posing as cops, said Anil Mishra, Additional DCP, Cuttack.
The accused have been identified as Sarojkant Jena, Manoj Patnaik, Rajesh Kumar Khuntia and Susanta Kumar Sethy. They will be produced before a local court today.
The four had befriended two sepoys of OSAP by identifying themselves as 'special police'. Later, they took Rs 9.80 lakh from the duo in the form of cash on the promise of giving 20 per cent of the amount as return, the police official said.
However, they didn't return the money to the two policemen. On the basis of a complaint lodged by one of the victims, police registered a case against the accused and apprehended them, Mishra said.
The accused had earlier committed crimes with similar modus operandi in Dhenkanal, Nayapalli, Pahala and Sundargarh, the Additional DCP said, adding that they used to deceive victims by giving them bag filled with money along with currency note-sized papers.
Police have seized Rs 1.30 lakh, a car and a gold necklace from their possession.
