Cuttack civic body builds swanky urban haat for Chhatra Bazar vegetable sellers

Bhubaneswar: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has constructed an urban haat with all modern facilities to accommodate the vegetable sellers of Chhatra Bazar.

The CMC has spent Rs 3.35 crore for setting up of the smart urban haat, said an official of the civic body.

Construction work for the project had started on December 21, 2021.

“Construction work for the urban haat has reached its last phase. The project would be soon dedicated to the people,” said the official.

The newly-constructed urban haat has 35 blocks and it can accommodate 600 vegetable sellers, he added.

“The urban haat has separate lavatories for men and women, designated parking lots for vehicles and proper lighting facilities. There is also underground drainage system to carry out rainwater,” said the official.

Notably, Chhatra Bazar is one of the biggest vegetable markets in Odisha. Hundreds of vegetable farmers from various places in Cuttack district and its nearby areas congregate at the market to sell their produce.
