Cuttack gears up for smooth conduct of Durga idol immersion

Cuttack: With Dussehra coming to an end, the Cuttack Commissionerate Police has rolled up its sleeves for immersion of the idols tomorrow.

While managing traffic is a major challenge during immersion, the police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the ceremonial procession.

Speaking to mediapersons, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said around 57 platoons of police force will be deployed during the immersion tomorrow. Traffic restrictions will be imposed between 11.30 AM and 12 noon.

“57 platoons of police force will be deployed on main routes passing through College Square, Gouri Shankar Park, Jaunliapatti and Puri Ghat and the immersion point at Devigada Ghat. And, 16 pushing teams will be engaged on these main routes to control the rush. Besides, 43 aid-posts have been put up, where police officials will intervene and take immediate action in case any unpleasant situation arises. This apart, IIC-rank officers will be pressed into services to check possible disputes during the immersion drive,” said Singh.

Besides, two companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) will be used as striking force to deal with emergency situations.

“This apart, we have already formed teams to keep an eye on eve-teasers and anti-socials, including thieves. Cops in uniforms and civil dress will be engaged for the same,” the DCP added.
