Cuttack Mayor Subhash Singh resigns as Rajya Sabha member

Cuttack: Newly-elected Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Subhash Chandra Singh today resigned from the membership of Rajya Sabha (RS).

Singh sent his resignation letter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President Venkaiha Naidu today.

“Consequent upon my election as CMC Mayor on March 26, I submit my resignation under Rule 213 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Rajya Sabha from its membership,” he wrote in the letter, requesting the RS Chairman to accept the same with immediate effect.

At a press meet, Singh said,  “I will work for the people by serving one position at a time. As an MP, I tried to raise several important issues of the state, including GI tag to Odisha’s Rasagola, in Rajya Sabha during the last two years.”

“I have also appraised the Upper House on the need for restoration of the historic Barabati Fort in Cuttack and delay in completion of Cuttack-Sambalpur highway. This apart, I have drawn the House’s attention towards the sorry state of rivers and forests in the state due to lack of conservation works,” he added.
