Cuttack minor girl gang-rape: Special team formed for probe, 1 held

Cuttack:  Hours after reports of a 15-year-old girl gangraped for 22 days in Chauliaganj area here surfaced, the police arrested a person in this connection today.

Informing mediapersons, Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh said the Chauliaganj police has arrested one accused in this case and search is on to nab another. Besides, a special team has been formed to investigate the incident, the DCP added.

“We are also looking for involvement of more persons in the incident,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Chauliaganj police today recorded the statement of the Class 9 victim girl.

As per reports,  the minor girl hailing from Tirtol area of Jagatsinghpur district was staying with her married elder sister and brother-in-law at Professor Pada here for last one month after her father allegedly started torturing her.

Following a dispute between her sister and brother-in-law, the former asked the minor girl to return to her home. On the fateful day,  when the girl was waiting at OMP Square to a board a bus to her village, a man offered her a lift to her village and later took her to a house near Gatiroutpatna in Chauliaganj area.

The man and his associate forcibly confined her in a house for 22 days and raped her. The accused duo also recorded a video of the act and threatened her to upload it on social media if she discloses the matter before anyone.

Acting on a tip-off, the Chauliaganj police on October 12 night reached the spot and rescued the girl. She was later handed over to the Child Line. Her statement was recorded by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) yesterday. The Child Line later lodged an FIR in this regard with the Chauliaganj police.
