Cuttack Municipal Corporation steps up measures to fight against COVID-19

Cuttack: In view of rising cases of COVID-19 in Odisha, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has been stepping up measures in its fight against the deadly virus. In one of such measures, the CMC has formed Mahila Aarogya Samiti in slum areas in the Millennium City. This was informed by the COVID observer for Cuttack Municipal area and Agriculture Department Secretary Saurabh Garg today.

Door-to-door surveys are being carried out in the CMC area. A total of 179 Puja Committees and Sahi Committees are cooperating in this effort and creating awareness about the disease, Garg added.

As many as 59 wards are functioning under the CMC. Garg further said ASHA, Anganwadi workers and noted local personalities have been included in the ward level committees.

CMC has formed 10 rapid response reams in the city to create awareness about the virus. Among others, an MBBS or Ayush doctor has been included in each team.

CMC Commissioner Ananya Das said as many as 5,101 migrant returnees have returned to the Millennium City from outside the State. She further informed 3892 migrant returnees have been sent to home quarantine while 949 were kept at institutional quarantine and 260 in paid quarantine.

The CMC has set up a control room – 7077775555 for public to get information about COVID-19.

The municipal corporation is monitoring the situation of senior citizens, pregnant women and children in the city. If need arises or in case they show any symptoms, tests are being carried, she informed.

Surprise visits to private hospitals in the Millennium City are being carried out by four joint enforcement teams to ensure the hospitals adhere to COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government. Also, action is being taken those who do not follow the guidelines, the CMC Commissioner said.

So far, a total of 34 persons in the CMC area have tested positive for the deadly virus. While 22 COVID-19 patients have recovered till yet, the number of active cases stands at 11. One woman COVID-19 patient from Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack died of the virus infection on June 16, 2020.
