Cuttack police busts dacoity gang; 4 held, valuables worth Rs 8 lakh seized

Cuttack: Busting a dacoity gang, the Commissionerate Police arrested four persons and seized gold and  silver jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh along with a car  from their possession.

All the accused hailing from Kendrapada were involved in several loot incidents in Bidanasi and Choudwar areas recently, informed outgoing Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh today adding that efforts are afoot to nab other accused persons, who are still at large.

The arrests were made on the basis of a complaint lodged by one Subash Chandra Das (62) of Chahata Lane-1 under Bidanasi police limits. As per the complaint, some miscreants had looted gold ornaments weighing 120 gram and Rs 1 lakh cash from the almirah  of his house by broke opening the window.

After investigation, police found out that a burglary gang from Kendrapada  operates in various districts  like Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur.

“Three members of the gang–SK Muna (35), Sajid Khand (24) and Prafulla Jena(48) were arrested on May 1 along with one receiver Gulam Kadir Khan (28). They have confessed to have committed series of burglary at various places in Bidanasi police station area, Choudwar, Paradip and Jajpur,” the senior cop said.

“The modus operandi of the gang is to locate a house, conduct a recce of the same and intimate all other members. Later, the dacoits reach the spot in a SUV. While three to four members enter the house by opening screw of window iron grill to loot valuables, others remain inside the vehicle to keep an eye on movements of public and police,” the DCP added.
