Cuttack: In a tragic incident, a 58-year-old woman died after falling into a septic tank while plucking flowers in Jobra area of Odisha's Cuttack city, today.

The deceased was identified as Jayanti Rout.

According to reports, the woman was collecting flowers from a tree behind her house at around 5 am. The slab of an unused septic tank, on which she was standing, caved in.

Subsequently, the woman fell into the tank while a heap of stones kept near the spot fell on her, leaving the victim unconscious.

On being informed about the mishap, Fire Services personnel from Chauliaganj rushed to the place and rescued her.

She was rushed to the SCB Medical College & Hospital, where a doctor declared her dead.

A pall of gloom descended on the locality after the incident.
