Cuttack city reports 87 fresh COVID-19 cases; super spreader infects 57

Cuttack:  Out of total 89 fresh cases detected in Cuttack district in the last 24 hours, 87 belong to the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) area. A super spreader has infected 57 persons in Behera Sahi, Malgodown  area here, informed the CMC.

As per the data shared by  the CMC,  57 persons, including 27 females from the containment zone of Behera Sahi, Malgodown area have tested positive for the deadly virus. All of them, who are contacts of previous positive cases, were under home quarantine.

On July 29, the CMC had declared the area as containment zone after detection 12 positive cases. Two days after, traders threatened to shut the Malgodown from August 3 after detection of the cases and demanding COVD-19 test of people in the locality.

Of the 87 fresh cases, 76 were under home quarantine, one under institutional quarantine, two under paid quarantine and eight are local contacts.  After detection of the fresh cases , the city’s COVID-19 tally rose to 1091, including 501 active cases. While 580 have recovered from the disease  10 succumbed to the virus.
