Cyclone Bulbul: Power supply restored, roads cleared in these affected districts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Electricity supply has been restored and road communication was normalized after clearing uprooted trees and broken branches in many places of Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts affected by Cyclone Bulbul, said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena, adding that however, normalcy is yet to come back in Rajnagar and Rajkankia blocks.

In Balasore and Bhadrak, electricity supply will be restored by today night as work is going on a wa footing, Jena added.

Addressing media persons this afternoon, Jena said mostly Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts have been hit by the Cyclone Bulbul since last night. Trees and electric poles have been damaged at several places in these districts. The maximum numbers of trees were uprooted in Kendrapara district.

Preliminary estimates revealed that 30-40% crops in six lakh hectare farmland in the four districts have been damaged due to the cyclone and rain.

Jena further said 3,682 people have been evacuated to 46 cyclone shelters in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts.

As per reports, a man died due to wall collapse in Kendrapara district during the cyclone.

In Mayurbhanj, the power will be restored and road will be completely cleared by tomorrow, said an official.

The weathermen have predicted the Cyclone Bulbul will hit the landmass near Sunderban of West Bengal from 7 pm to 11 pm today.
