Cyclone FANI aftermath: Denizens leave Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: With uncertainty looming over the exact date of restoration of electricity and water supply in Odisha capital after cyclonic storm FANI, many residents of Bhubaneswar have started leaving the city and moving to their hometowns/villages.

Students staying in private hostels and people residing in areas having no tubewells or piped water supply nearby are bearing the brunt of the disruption in the services.

Bus stands and stoppages in the city are witnessing a heavy rush with buses to the areas which were not affected by the cyclone running packed with people. Prices of bus tickets have also gone up amid sudden hike in the number of passengers.

Bhubaneswar Bus Owners’ Association Secretary Tusharkant Acharya said more than 400 buses are currently plying on 80 percent of total routes. However, it is seemingly falling short with gradual increase in the number of persons willing to leave the city which is reeling sans water and power supply.
