Cyclone FANI claims 5 lives in Odisha

Kendrapara/Puri/Nayagarh: At least five persons were killed at various places across the state under the impact of severe cyclonic storm FANI that hit the Odisha coast near Puri at 8 AM today.

As per sources  a 70-year-old woman of Gupti Panchayat under Rajnagar block in Kendrapara  district died while she was moving towards a cyclone shelter Devendranarayanpur at around 8.30 AM. The deceased has been identified as Usha Baidya, wife of one Aswini Baidya.

In a separate incident, two persons were killed due to the cyclone in Puri district. While one died in wall collapse after a tree got uprooted and fell on his house, another was crushed to death after the asbestos of his house collapsed due to strong wind accompanied with heavy rain. Though identity of the deceased  duo is yet to be ascertained, both were declared dead at Puri district headquarters hospital (DHH).

In another incident, an 18-year-old youth died after an uprooted tree fell on him at Hiranyapada village in Sakhigopal  of the district.

In Nayagarh district, a 30-year-old woman identified as Susama Parida of Daspalla area died in wall collapse due to FANI.
