Cyclone FANI: MCC lifted in 11 Odisha dists for relief operations

Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has lifted Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in 11 districts of Odisha which are likely to be affected by Cyclonic Storm ‘FANI’.

The move of the ECI is to facilitate expedition of rescue, relief and restoration operations in the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Cuttack and Jajpur.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had yesterday requested the Election Commission to withdraw imposition of Model Code of Conduct with regard to disaster management for all coastal districts of the state.

“It is important that the model code of conduct with regard to disaster management be completely removed for all the coastal districts of the state so that the government can handle this situation keeping the safety of our people in mind,” Patnaik had said.
