Cyclone FANI to hit Odisha coast near Satapada: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Cyclonic Storm FANI is likely to cross Odisha coast near Satapada in Puri district on May 3 afternoon with maximum sustained wind speed of 175-185 kmph gusting to 205 kmph, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

After landfall, it is likely to pass through Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts, IMD sources said.

On the other hand, as per the forecast by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the United States Navy, Cyclonic Storm FANI would cross near Balukhanda in Puri on May 3 afternoon. The wind speed before landfall would be about 175 kmph and pass through Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack (Niali), Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts before going to West Bengal.

Under its impact, squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely to commence along & off Odisha coast from May 2 and very likely to become gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 85 kmph from May 3 morning and become 175-185 kmph gusting to 205 kmph over Odisha coast by May 3 evening.

Rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over south coastal Odisha on May 2. It is likely to increase with rainfall at most places and heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls (>20 cm) at isolated places over coastal Odisha and interior Odisha on May 3 and rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places over north Odisha on May 4.
