Cyclone FANI: Water supply restored in Puri, Bhubaneswar

Puri/Bhubaneswar: In a sigh of relief for the denizens of Puri and Bhubaneswar amid damages caused by cyclone FANI, water supply has been restored in the two cities.

After installation of heavy duty Diesel Generator (DG) sets at intake well and water treatment plant in Puri, water supply has been fully restored to pre-cyclone level from today morning, Housing & Urban Development Department sources said.

In Bhubaneswar, against normal water supply of about 200 MLD, 184 MLD has been accomplished today. As many as 169 water tankers were pressed into service and 114 heavy duty DG sets have been installed for alternative power. All the wards of Bhubaneswar are covered with water supply, the sources said.

On the other hand, full restoration of water supply is expected to be achieved in Cuttack within the next 24 hours. Against the normal supply of 108 MLD, 80 MLD has been reached. A total of 36 water tankers are pressed into service and water is being supplied from 90 production wells with pumps operating through 53 heavy duty DG sets, the sources added.
