Cyclone Jawad: Check rainfall, wind warnings for Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In view of the possible cyclone Jawad, which is likely to make landfall on north Andhra Pradesh­-south Odisha coasts by December 4 morning, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall and wind warnings for several regions of Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.

“A low pressure lay over south Thailand and neighbourhood at 8.30 am today, It is likely to emerge into Andaman Sea during next 12 hours and further move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal (BoB) by December 2. Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over central parts of the BoB during the subsequent 24 hours. Subsequently, it is likely to move northwestwards, intensify further and reach north Andhra Pradesh – Odisha coasts around December 4 morning,” the IMD said in its latest bulletin.

Warnings:
Rainfall

November 30: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall falls at isolated places very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

December 1: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

December 2: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

December 3.: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely to commence over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha from evening/night.

December 4: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over coastal Odisha and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over adjoining interior districts of Odisha, coastal districts of West Bengal and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

December 5: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over West Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha. It is likely that the north eastern states would also experience enhanced rainfall activity on December 5 and 6, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall owing to the likely northeastward movement of the remnant of the system during the same period.

Wind warning:

-Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to prevail over Andaman Sea on November 30. It would increase gradually becoming 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph over Andaman Sea, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and adjoining southeast BoB on December 1.

-It would further increase to wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea on December 2.

-Gale winds speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph likely to prevail over central Bay of Bengal from the early morning of December 3 and gradually increase becoming 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal from the morning of December 4 for the subsequent 24 hours.

-Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to commence along and  off North Andhra Pradesh – Odisha coast from the mid-night of December 3 and increase gradually becoming 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph from the afternoon of December 4, for the subsequent 12 hours.

-Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph also likely to commence along and off West Bengal coast from 4th December morning and become Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from the evening of December 4 for the subsequent 12 hours.

Sea condition

-Sea condition will be rough to very rough over Andaman Sea on November 30, over Andaman Sea, along and off Andaman and Nicobar Islands and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on December 1.

-Sea condition would become very rough to high over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Andaman sea on December 2.

-Sea condition would be high over central Bay of Bengal and high to very high over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal from the early morning of December 4 for the
subsequent 24 hours.

-Sea condition will be rough to very rough over along and off North Andhra Pradesh – Odisha coast from the mid-night of December 3 and become high to very high from December 4 afternoon, for the subsequent 12 hours. It will be very rough to high along and off West Bengal coast from December 4 morning and high to very high from the same evening for the subsequent 12 hours.

Fishermen Warning
Fishermen are advised not to venture into Andaman Sea from November  30 to December  2, over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on December 2 and 3, over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and along & off north Andhra Pradesh – Odisha- West Bengal coasts from December 3 to 5.

Fishermen, who are already out in Sea, are advised to return to coast by the morning of December 2

Advisory to along & off shore Installations

The off-shore and alongshore operations along north Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal coasts are advised to be judiciously regulated on December 3 and to be suspended on December 4, to ensure safety of life and property.
