Cyclone Jawad over Bay of Bengal around November 10? Here’s what models indicate

Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic storm may form over southwest Bay of Bengal around November 10, weather models indicate.

IMD GFS and NCEP GFS models are indicating intensification of a likely low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal up to the stage of a cyclonic storm over southwest Bay of Bengal around November 10. The system over Bay of Bengal is being continuously monitored for further development and movement, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The system will be named as ‘Cyclone Jawad’ if it intensifies into a cyclonic storm.

“The cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean lay over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 08th November. Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 24 hours. It is likely to become more marked over the same region during the subsequent 24 hrs and move west –northwestwards and reach near north Tamil Nadu on 11th November, 2021. In association with this formation, there would be a continuation of the ongoing active rain spell over Tamil Nadu during 8th–12th November,” the IMD said in its bulletin issued this morning.

Wind warning

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to prevail over southeast Bay of Bengal on 9th & 10th November, over southwest Bay of Bengal during 10th – 11th November and along & off Tamil Nadu & adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts on 11th November.

Sea condition

Sea condition will be rough to very rough over southeast Bay of Bengal on 9th & 10th November, over southwest Bay of Bengal during 10th – 11th November and along & off Tamil Nadu & adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts on 11th November.

Fishermen Warning (in association with the likely formation of the system)

Fishermen are advised not to venture into southeast Bay of Bengal on 9th & 10th November, over southwest Bay of Bengal during 10th – 11th November and along & off Tamil Nadu & adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts on 11th November.

Fishermen out in the sea are advised to return to coast by 9th November.
