Cyclone Jawad Update: Deep Depression remnant to weaken today; to reach Odisha coast by noon

Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression remnant of Cyclone Jawad is likely to reach Odisha coast near Puri around noon after weakening further into a Depression by morning of December 5.

According to IMD bulletin, the remnant of Cyclonic Storm Jawad was centered at 5.30 am of December 5 over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal, about 130 km southsoutheast of Gopalpur and 180 km southsouthwest of Puri (Odisha).

It is likely to move north-northwestward, weaken further into a Depression and reach Odisha coast near Puri around noon of today. Subsequently, it is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards along Odisha coast towards West Bengal coast and weaken into a well marked low pressure area during subsequent 12 hours.

Under influence of the system over the sea, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over coastal districts of Odisha today.

The Regional Meteorological Centre issued orange warning for the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak and Balasore and yellow warning for Nayagarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

The districts included Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during today and tomorrow due to Cyclone Jawad.

Also, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur Khordha and Puri between December 5 and 6 morning.
