Cyclone Mandous: Depression over Bay of Bengal by today evening; Check latest forecast by IMD

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to become a depression by the evening of today. It may intensify into a cyclonic storm by the morning of December 8, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted.

“The Low Pressure Area over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman sea now lies as a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Southeast Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid tropospheric levels. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal by today evening. Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards, intensify further gradually into a Cyclonic Storm and reach Southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry & adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by 08th December morning,” the IMD said in its bulletin issued this morning.

The system will be named as Cyclone Mandous once it intensifies into a cyclonic storm.

Rainfall Warning:

  • Enhanced rainfall activity with rainfall at a few places with isolated heavy rainfall likely to commence over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal from 07th December mid-night. It is likely to increase with rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu & Puducherry on 08th December, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu on 09th and isolated heavy rainfall over interior Tamil Nadu on 10th December.
  • Enhanced rainfall activity with rainfall at a few places with isolated heavy rainfall likely to commence over south Andhra Pradesh from 07th December mid-night. It is likely to increase with rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on 08th December and isolated heavy rainfall on 09th & 10th December over south Andhra Pradesh.

Wind Warning:

  • December 8: Squally wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph over Southwest Bay of Bengal and speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to prevail along & off Tamilnadu, Puducherry, south Andhra Pradesh and north Sri Lanka coasts coast and Gulf of Mannar.
  • December 9: Squally wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over Southwest Bay of Bengal and speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to prevail along & off Tamilnadu, Puducherry, south Andhra Pradesh and north Sri Lanka coasts coast and Gulf of Mannar.
