Cyclone ‘MICHAUNG’ forms over Bay of Bengal, to cross coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam on Dec 5

Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“Deep Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a Cyclonic Storm MICHAUNG 0530 hrs IST 3rd Dec over the same region. It is likely to continue to move northwestwards, intensify further and reach west central Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts by 4th December forenoon,” the agency said in its morning bulletin.

“Thereafter, it would move nearly northwards almost parallel and close to south Andhra Pradesh coast and cross South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam during forenoon of 5th December as a cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph,” it added.
