Cyclone Mora: Odisha puts four districts on alert

In view of cyclonic storm ‘Mora’ likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours and a possible change in its course, the Odisha government today directed District Collectors of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj to remain on alert.

In addition to that, the government has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.

“Mora is intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm and is moving in the direction of Chittagong in Bangladesh. Under its influence districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive rains. Since it can also change its direction any moment, District Collectors of these four districts have been cautioned. All concerned departments have been put on alert,” informed Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty to reporters today after a special meeting for disaster management preparedness at the State Secretariat here.

Notably, cyclonic storm ‘Mora’ currently lies centered over East Central Bay of Bengal at a distance of 590 km from Paradip and is moving at a speed of 13 km per hour and under its influence, Odisha is likely to receive heavy rainfall.
