Cyclone Sitrang: Heavy rainfall likely in these Odisha districts from tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The possible cyclonic storm ‘Sitrang’ is likely to bring heavy downpour for coastal Odisha districts from tomorrow.

According to Regional Meteorological Centre of IMD, Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Puri between October 23 and 24.

The IMD has issued orange warning for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts where heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places during October 24 and 25. The heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Khorda, Puri and Ganjam during the period.

Similarly, Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak between October 25 and 26 morning.

As per IMD forecast, the low pressure area is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over southeast and adjoinig eastcentral Bay of Bengal on October 22 and then moving northwestwards intensify into a deep depression over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on Ocober 23.

Subsequently, it is very likely to recurve gradually northwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal by October 24. Thereafter, it is likely to move north-northwastwards and reach near West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts on October 25, skirting Odisha coast.

Wind warning:

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on October 22 and wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is very likely over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral and southeast Bay of Bengal on October 23. Gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely over westcentral and adjoining areas of eastcentral and north Bay of Bengal on October 24. Wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph is likely over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph is likely over north Bay of Bengal on October 26 morning becoming 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph from October 26 afternoon.

Squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph on October 23, 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on October 24 and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on October 25 is very likely along and off Odisha coast.

Sea condition:

Rough to very rough over central & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on October 22. Very rough over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral and southeast Bay of Bengal on October 23. High over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral & north Bay of Bengal on October 24. High over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on October 25 and High to very rough over north Bay of Bengal till October 26 noon and very rough to rough thereafter.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal from 22nd October and along and off Odisha coast and West-central & North Bay of Bengal from 23rd October to 26th October, 2022. Fishermen whoever in deep sea are advised to return to the coast by 22nd October, 2022.
