Cyclone Yaas likely to intensify up to Very Severe Cyclonic Storm: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Forecasted Cyclone Yaas over Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify up to a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted today.

Worth mentioning, cyclonic storms having wind speed of 118-166 kmph are categorised as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm.

Categorisation of Cyclonic Disturbances:

A low pressure area is very likely to form over east central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea on 22nd May. It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by 24th May. It would continue to move northwestwards, intensify further and reach north Bay of Bengal near Odisha-West Bengal coasts around 26th May morning, the IMD said.

The landfall location of the system was yet to be predicted by the IMD. The system will be named as Cyclone Yaas when it intensifies into Cyclonic Storm.
