Dacoits loot house of ex-Odisha HC judge

A gang of dacoits looted the house of former Judge of the Odisha High Court Justice PK Mohanty in CDA Sector-11 area of Cuttack city in the late night hours on Friday.

Talking to the media, Justice Mohanty said about 7-8 dacoits, wearing black clothes on their faces, barged in to his house by breaking the front gate between 3 AM-4.30 AM. Later, they entered into his bed room and asked him and wife to hand over cash and ornaments. The dacoit later broke open the cupboard and took away cash and ornaments over lakhs.

“They told me and my wife that they do not want to kill us but warned that will kill us if we raise alarm. Later, they tied me and my wife and wrapped up our mouths will clothes and asked us not to move anywhere. After collecting the cash and ornaments, they took out the key of my car and fled the area”, Justice Mohanty said.

He also said that the dacoits were talking in Hindi, Bengali and Odia.

Following information, police rushed to the spot with a scientific team for an on-the-spot investigation.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that an inter-state dacoit gang is involved in the loot.

Meanwhile, commissionerate police found the Maruti Swift Dzire car of Justice Mohanty at a place in Rasulgarh area in Bhubaneswar this morning.

Expressing grave concern over the incident, DGP Sanjiv Marik said he has taken up the matter seriously.

“I will have an emergency meeting on law and order situation in the millennium city with senior officials in Cuttack this afternoon”, he added.

It may be recalled that the state government had appointed Justice Mohanty to probe into the Pipili gang rape and murder case after his retirement as the judge of the Odisha High Court.
