Kendrapara: Police foiled a major dacoity bid by arresting seven persons with seizure of several articles including iron rods and a pistol during raid here last night.

The accused were identified as Zakir Khan (31), Rakesh Behera (20), SK Sahir (20), Bimal Prasad Das (24), Yusuf Khan (22), Md Hamid (35) and Ranjan Kumar Sethi (38).

Sources said that the police raided the hideout at around 1.30 am near a place on Thakurpatna-Anlabanka road while the antisocial youths were planning for a dacoity in the area.

Police seized a number of articles -- a curve sword, four iron rods, two packets of chilli powder, two half bottles of liquor, one half burnt candle, an USA-made pistol with two life cartridge, a toy pistol, seven mobile phones and three bikes -- from possession of the accused persons.

All the seven accused were booked under sections 399 and 402 of IPC.
