Rourkela: Ambedkar Jayanti was celebrated by Dr Ambedkar Executives’ Educational & Welfare Trust (DAEEWT) and SKDAV Polytechnic here recently.  Er SR Suryawanshi, ED (Works) of Rourkela Steel Plant had graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with Er R N Rajendran CGM (Mech) and Er UK Mallick Principal, SKDAV as Guest of honours, Er Etwa Oraon Chairman, Chitrasen Tajan Secretary & DG and other dignitaries, staff, students paid tributes and respects to the Father of Indian Constitution Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar by offering flowers, lighting candles followed by recital of Bande Utkal Janani Song.

Chairman, DAEEWT, Er Etwa Oraon presented a brief life sketch of Dr BR Ambedkar. "Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891 in Madhya Pradesh’s Mhow. He is fondly called Baba saheb by his followers and each year, his birth anniversary is celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti to honour his countless contributions in the making of the present-day independent India. Dr BR Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer and politician and is best known as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. He headed the committee which drafted the Constitution of India. He contributed to the founding of an independent republic in India. He inspired the students and members to inculcate the principles and paths shown by Baba Saheb," he said.

Guest of Honour Er R N Rajendran said Dr BR Ambedkar was conferred the Bharat Ratna - the country's highest civilian award in 1990 - 30 years after his demise. He breathed his last on December 6, 1956. He inspired the students to Be Educated, Be Organised and Be Agitated. He iterated that technical students should take advantages of  internships, plant visits, stipendiary training provided by RSP and other organizations to see and learn the applications of engineering and intricacies of modern technologies and build a good career. Principal Er UK Mallick shed light on about 64 degrees of Baba saheb and his struggling life and advised the students to maintain discipline, sincerity, punctuality and honesty in their life to get success.

Chief Guest Er S R Suryawansi said “Our baba saheb Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar is a monumental figure in Indian history and is an  inspiration to the world." He exemplified by remembrance of  his student and college life and the teacher-student relationship which provided him an educative ambiance and inculcating discipline and sincerity.

Suryawansi inaugurated the maiden career counselling programmes of DAEEWT. Nearly 100 students from SKDAV Govt Polytechnic, UGIE, ITI Panposh, Govt colleges had participated in the programme. Chief Guest expressed that such educational initiatives and career counselling with college students will guide them properly.

Prizes and certificates were distributed to winners of various essays and quiz competition on Baba Saheb Ambedkar and for special contributions.

Speaker Nandita Jaipuria said that it was on August 29, 1947, that Baba saheb was appointed as the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee for the constitution of independent India and after Independence, he was appointed as the Law minister of India and urged citizens to educate and fight for their rights. She added that Ambedkar had dedicated his life to women empowerment and social reform. He studied the health, treatment and wages of workers working in the coal mines/PSUs in depth and implemented minimum wages, 8-hrs duty in a day and life insurance for them. The Constitution not only protects the oppressed classes but also gives equal rights to all.

Speaker Dr Abhay Kumar narrated the fundamental rights, laws and privileges enshrined in Constitution written by Dr BR Ambedkar. He sent a message to the world in the fields of law and order, elimination of untouchability, fundamental rights and duties of citizens, equality, universal education, among others. He played vital roles in foundation of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and playing a crucial role in promoting gender equality.

While addressing the gathering, Chitrasen Tajan, Secy & DG of DAEEWT said that Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar always stressed that sincerity is the sum of all moral qualities. He was industrious and planned his activities wisely and successfully. And today the entire world is remembering him for his noble deeds and contributions. He presented slides on educational objectives and plan of Career Counseling run by the trust. He showed career counseling and various opportunities available to 10th pass students. He told that “work is worship” and hence no job is inferior. One can start from zero, pursue higher studies and become heroes if he/she concentrates delightedly. He requested the audience to inform DAEEWT about poor and meritorious students in need of financial help or guidance to build a good career. Anybody can contribute/donate/help to the Trust for pursuit of its mission.

Dr Mysa Soren of Rourkela Govt Hospital explained ways and good practices about health and safety. He told that sound mind and body are our treasures to maintain good health. Good habits like early to bed and early to rise,  regular exercise, Yoga, Pranayam, diet, good friendship, positive thinking, taking advice of parents, teachers and doctors are some essential elements of living a healthy and decent life. Our students must follow these to prosper and progress and contribute in nation building.

The career counseling on Ambedkar Jayanti occassion was grand success by active co-ordinations and participations of Er Dushamanta Bariha Amit Marandi, Seema Lakra, Sonia Tirkey, Stella Kujur, Babban Prasad, Dileswar Toppo, DB Kishan and other staff and students.
