Daily COVID cases in Odisha to reduce to around 700 in 2 weeks: IIT Kanpur’s model

Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID-19 cases in Odisha are likely to reduce to around 700 in two weeks, the COVID-19 Prediction Model of IIT Kanpur said.

“The daily count of infections has reduced by 73.6% compared to its value at its peak. The active cases have also gone down by 71.8% from its peak value of 98991 on May 23. The current case fatality rate based on average daily data is 1.5%. According to the model, the daily cases are currently in decline phase. The effective reproduction number based on the latest data is 0.9. With the current decay rate, Odisha is expected to have about 739 daily cases in two weeks,” the prediction said.

“The current trend indicates that the situation is improving. People are advised to strictly follow COVID protocols and guidelines even after the interventions are eased in order to avoid any fresh wave of infections (third wave),” it added.

As on July 4, Odisha had 30227 active COVID-19 cases while the toll stood at 4196.
