Das panel directs Odisha govt to file fresh affidavit

The Odisha government Saturday sought further time to file its affidavit before Justice M M Das Commission of Inquiry probing the chit fund scam in the state.

The state government in conformity with the Commission’s earlier order is required to make a submission in the form of a fresh affidavit on the measures it has taken to create awareness among the public about chit fund companies.

The Commission in accordance with its earlier directions ordered the state government to submit its affidavit by April 23.

It may be mentioned here that the Commission had advised the state government to create awareness among the public about chit fund companies through publicity in both print and electronic media.

The Commission ordered the state government for filing a fresh affidavit in the matter when it came to fore during the course of hearing that its directive has not been fully implemented.

The Commission issued the order while conducting a hearing on a complaint filed by lawyer Pravat Ranjan Das that some unregistered investment firms were still operating in the state.
