Bhubaneswar, July 1:
With the arrest of famous stand-up comedian Papu Pom Pom yesterday, the actor has found a new address in the Jharpada Special Jail in Odisha capital.
The high drama and hide-and-seek culminated in the arrest of the beleaguered actor yesterday and sent to Jharpada Special Jail here late in the night at around 11 pm amid tight security.
The actor clad in a bright red shirt and a pair of denim blue jeans; his partner in alleged crime was frisked away from the public glare and camerapersons into the high-security area.
According to jail officials, the actor was handed over a blanket, utensils before being sent to Ward No. 11. He was offered food as served to other inmates in the jail. However, he reportedly refused to take the food.
“They arrived here at around 11 pm after which they were kept in Ward No. 11 where new entrants are housed. We offered them food but they refused to eat as they had already taken food outside. After having breakfast, the jail doctor conducted a health check-up on them and they are normal,” Jharpada Special Jail Superintendent Rabindranath Swain said.
The officials stressed that the high-profile inmate wasn’t accorded preferential treatment. The actor had tea, Upma and Ghuguni for breakfast.
Now, the Rangeela Toka-fame has been shifted to Ward No. 18 in the third block of the high-security prison.
While the inmates were in the awe of the actor as he had become a household name in Odisha as well as Odias living outside, the crowd on the other side of the perimeter of the high walls were visibly hysterical.
The people assembled in front of the main gate of the prison were ignorantly waiting to have a glimpse of the tainted actor accused of casting couch of a minor girl on the guise of giving her roles in movies. The aggrieved fans were waiting in anticipation to watch him while he would be taken to court in the van without having the inkling that he would be produced before court on July 4 when his bail plea would be heard.
Post his arrest from Nandighosh apartment in Puri during the day, he was produced before the Khordha District and Sessions Judge late yesterday evening. Though Tattwa Prakash Satapathy aka Papu Pom Pom and his associate Pradipta Swain alias Gitu had moved bail applications, the court—in the absence of the public prosecutor, case diary and statement of the victim under section 164 of the CrPc—had fixed the next date for the hearing of the bail pleas on July 4.
