Jajpur: In a shocking incident, a person sentenced to prison for his wife's murder, committed suicide, a few days after being released from jail here in Odisha's Jajpur district.

The deceased has been identified as Sudipt Samal (50), a resident of Angola village under Binjharpur police limits. He was serving his jail term for 18 years after being convicted of killing his wife in the year 2004.

He had walked out of jail 20 days ago. The neighbourers found him hanging from a mango tree with a rope near his house in the morning today.

Source said that Samal was accused of killing his wife brutally with a billhook in 2004. He might have taken the extreme step out of mental stress and public shaming for murdering his wife.

On receiving information, the Binjharpur police reached the site and recovered the body. The body has been sent to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Jajpur, for autopsy.
