Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two boys, who had passed the High School Certificate (HSC) examinations recently, were killed in a mishap in Bhuban area of Dhenkanal district in Odisha today.

The deceased have been identified as Pruthwiraj Sahu (15), son of Batakrushna Sahu and Soumyaranjan Kandi (16), son of Vinod Kandi, sources said.

The duo had passed their HSC (matriculation) exams from Sri Aurobindo Vidhyapeeth at Surapratappur near Bhuban this year, sources added.

The incident took place during a get-together organised by around 30 students of the school who had cleared the matriculation exams, 2023.

A speeding SUV hit Pruthwiraj and Soumyaranjan when they were standing beneath a banyan tree near Banadurga temple in the locality at around 2 pm, sources said.

The villagers rescued the duo and rushed them to Bhuban Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition. However, the two students were declared dead-on-arrival, sources added.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.

Notably, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) in Odisha published the results of this year’s HSC exams on May 18.
