Bhubaneswar, Aug 18:

The Employment and Technical Education and Training (ET&T) department of Odisha government, which has decided to organise a four-day special recruitment drive for technical and management students from September 17 at Kalinga stadium here, is yet to develop the required software for online registration of interested candidates.

“The National Informatics Centre (NIC) is developing a web portal for registration of participants in the four-day recruitment drive. I think it will be ready within five days,” said Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) vice-chancellor J K Satapathy, who heads the committee to oversee the job fair.

It may be noted that while making the announcement on August 12, the department had said that candidates will have to register with the department to participate in the recruitment drive  and the registration process would start from this week.

Satpathy informed that advertisements will be issued in newspapers about the registration dates and its process soon so that students can register their names. “We have decided that the registration process will continue till September first week to ensure that the maximum interested candidates participate in the recruitment drive. The participants need not worry,” he said.

Prospective candidates who have completed B Tech, MCA, MBA and Pharmacy courses have been making desperate queries since the announcement about how they would register. But the state government appears to be moving at its own leisurely pace. “If they were not ready, they had no business announcing that candidates should register themselves in a week’s time,” an angry aspirant  told OST, which has been flooded with queries since the publication of the news last week.

The committee headed by the BPUT VC has representatives of Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) and Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET) as members. it has been tasked with finalising the modalities for the fair.

Sources in the JEE said the first two days of the drive will be for B Tech, M Tech and MCA pass outs. MBA degree holders will take part on the third day on September 19 while the last day will be reserved for placement of pharmacy graduates.

Students aspiring to take part in the proposed recruitment drive have to pay Rs 100 each for registration. They will pay the money online, sources added.

Meanwhile, the government has initiated talks with various companies to participate in the job fair and recruit the eligible candidates for their companies. It has targeted to invite about 300 companies for the fair.

A total of 40 stalls will be put up at Kalinga Stadium here to facilitate students’ interface with prospective employers during the proposed recruitment drive, sources said.
