Death of boy after drowning in drain sparks tension in Odisha’s Puri

Puri: Tension erupted at Balighat Chhak in Odisha’s Puri district today over the death of a minor boy after he fell and drowned inside a drain in the area last evening.

Opposing the fact that the drain was kept open, irate locals staged road blockade at Balighat Chhak by burning tyres demanding compensation for the family of the decaesed.

According to reports, seven-year-old Ganesh Nayak of nearby Gopalpur village went missing last evening. His kin searched for him at various places in the locality but in vain. His body was recovered this morning from a drain near the village.

On being informed about the protest by locals, police reached the spot and tried to pacify them.
