The death toll in the alleged food poisoning case in Odisha’s Keonjhar district mounted to six with three more deaths reported at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here by Thursday while undergoing treatment.

Six persons have died of food poisoning since Sunday, doctors said today.

The third died early on Thursday, sources said.

Reports said members of a farmer’s family in Dalimbapur village under Keonjhar block in Keonjhar district and five farm labourers had consumed rice and dalma at the farmer’s residence on Sunday evening.

Around midnight, one Saraswati Dehury (27) complained of giddiness and started vomiting. By the next morning all the eight had developed similar symptoms. They were then admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Keonjhar, where doctors declared Saraswati Dehury as brought dead.

As the condition of the other patients was deteriorating fast, they were referred to the SCBMH.
Srimati Dehury (29) and Kandi Dehury (26) died here while undergoing treatment on Tuesday, sources said.

Doctors said they were still investigating the cause of the deaths while not ruling out contamination of food due to presence of some poisonous substance.
