Senior journalists, who assembled at the Red Cross Bhawan here, remembered Thakur not only as an excellent journalist but also as a humble man filled with compassion.

Veteran journalist Prashant Patnaik reminisced how Thakur had gone out of his way to help a scribe of Parlakhemundi, who was in need of financial assistance during his illness. Resident Editor of The Telegraph Prakash Patra, senior scribes such as Jayashish Ray, Dilip Bisoi, Ashok Mohapatra and Dilip Satpathy fondly remembered their long association with the 51-year-old Thakur whose untimely demise on October 28 shocked the media fraternity in the state.

Thakur’s unfailing commitment to his work was highlighted by younger generation scribes, who had trained under him. They also spoke of how Thakur had helped them in shaping their careers.

The TNIE organised memorial meeting began with a minute’s silence and the journalists lighted candles in the memory of the departed soul. Resident Editor of TNIE, Odisha Srimoy Kar conducted the prayer meeting along with the staff of the newspaper.
