Debt-ridden Odisha farmer commits suicide

Kankadahada: Yet again another debt-ridden farmer has allegedly committed suicide in Odisha.

Jaladhar Pradhan of Tipeijharan village in Chandpur panchayat under Kankadahada block in Dhenkanal district allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Sunday.

According to family sources, this year Jaladhar had cultivated paddy on one acre of land and had borrowed Rs 50,000 for the same from the village committee.

However, his crops failed due to deficient rainfall this year.

He was under severe mental pressure to repay his debt as his crops had failed.

Family members said Jaladhar had consumed pesticide on Sunday evening and they had rushed him to the Sub Divisional Hospital at Talcher where he succumbed in the wee hours today while undergoing treatment.
