‘Deep depression’: Heavy rains predicted over north, south Odisha

Isolated extremely heavy rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in north Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places in south Odisha would occur during the next 24 hours, the Bhubaneswar Met Centre said in its late evening bulletin today.

Most parts of Odisha would receive rain and gusty surface wind reaching 45 to 55 kmph, gusting to 65kmph, may prevail along and off Odisha Coast, it said.

“The Depression over Gangetic West Bengal has moved westwards and intensified into a Deep Depression. It now lies centered over Jharkhand and neighbourhood about 50 Km South of Jamshedpur and would move Westwards during next 24 hours,” the bulletin informed while advising fishermen not to venture into the sea.

The release also said there would be no significant change in the weather that would continue till August 11 with more rainfall.

Meanwhile, rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours (till 5.30 pm today) was the highest in Sambalpur (347.8 mm).

Rainfall recorded at other centres are as follows : Baleswar (255.4), Chandbali (69.1), Cuttack (97.6), Paradip (47.4), Bhubaneswar (71), Gopalpur (17), Puri (20.3), Angul (56), Baripada (74.8), Jharsuguda (52.8), Keonjhar (145.8), Sundargarh (27.4), Hirakud (159.3), Talcher (40), Bhawanipatna (103), Bolangir (58.4), Koraput (44), Phulbani (108), Titlagarh (73.3), Sonepur (49) and Dhenkanal (70).
