Bhubaneswar: Due to the prevalent monsoon trough and a Deep Depression formed, extremely heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in six districts of Odisha during next 24 hours. India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre today issued Red Warning in some districts for next 24 hours and Yellow Warning for one more day thereafter.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD regional centre mentioned, “Yesterday’s Deep Depression now lies over Gangetic West Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 20 km/ph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of 2nd August, 2023 over the same region near latitude 23.2°N and longitude 87.1°E, close to Bankura (West Bengal), about 70 Km east-southeast of Purulia (West Bengal) and 180 Km east of Ranchi.”

It is likely to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and gradually weaken into a Depression during next 12 hours and into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area during subsequent 24 hours. Southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over Odisha, the IMD stated.

The highest maximum (day) temperature of 33.0oC was recorded at Balasore and the lowest minimum (night) temperature of 20.0oC was recorded at Angul in the plains of Odisha.

Red Warning (Take Action)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at a few places over the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Boudh with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) is very likely to occur over the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur and Sambalpur.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared)- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at a one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated)- Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur and Jajpur.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated)- Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.
