Deep Depression remnant of Cyclone Jawad: Know wind speed and rainfall warning

Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression remnant of Cyclone Jawad over westcentral Bay of Bengal is likely to reach Odisha coast near Puri by noon.

India Meteorological Department released the forecast track and intensity of the system when it will hit Odisha coast.

According to latest weather bulletin of IMD, the Deep Depression remnant of Cyclonic Storm Jawad over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north-northeastwards with a speed of 15 kmph during past 06 hours, and lay centered at 5.30 am of today, over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal near Lat. 18.2°N and Long. 85.4°E, about 230 km east-northeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 130 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha), 180 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha) and 270 km south-southwest of Paradip (Odisha).

It is likely to move north-northeast wards, weaken further into a Depression and reach Odisha coast near Puri around noon of today, December 5. Subsequently, it is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards along Odisha coast towards West Bengal coast and weaken into a well marked low pressure area during subsequent 12 hours.

Rainfall warning:

December 5-6: Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur , Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj.

Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts ofGanjam, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

Wind warning:

Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph prevails over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal. It would gradually decrease becoming 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal by evening of today, the 5th December. It would decrease further becoming 30-40 gusting to 50 kmph over northwest Bay of Bengal by night of today, the 5th December.

Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to prevail along & off Odisha coast till evening of today, 5th December,2021.

Sea conditions:

Rough to very rough Sea conditions likely to prevail over northwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal and along & off North Andhra Pradesh – Odisha & West Bengal coasts during next 24 hours.

Fishermen Warning:

Fishermen are advised not to venture into westcentral & northwest Bay of Bengal and along & off north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-West Bengal coasts during next 24 hours.

Port warning:

Keep hoisted Local Cautionary Signal No.3 (LC-3) at all ports of Odisha.

Expected impact:

Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Cuttack:

  • Breaking of tree branches.
  • Localized Flooding of roads, inundation and water logging in low lying areas and closure of underpasses mainly in urban areas due to heavy rain.
  • Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.
  • Disruption of traffic in major cities due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.
  • Minor damage to Kutcha roads.
  • Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.
  • Damage to banana, Papaya & Moring (Drumstick) trees due to strong winds.

Balasore, Bhadrak Jajpur, and Mayurbhanj:

  • Localized Flooding of roads, inundation and water logging in low lying areas and closure of underpasses mainly in urban areas due to heavy rain.
  • Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.
  • Disruption of traffic in major cities due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.
  • Minor damage to Kutcha roads.
  • Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.
