Deep Depression to weaken soon, heavy downpour likely across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression over Odisha is very likely to weaken into a depression soon, a bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. However, it would trigger rainfall across the state today.

“The Deep Depression over Odisha moved east-northeastwards in past six hours with a speed of 13 kmph, and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 12th October 2018 over Odisha near latitude 20.6°N and longitude 84.9°E, 60 km east-northeast of Phulbani and 30 km southwest of Angul. It is very likely to move northeastwards towards Gangetic West Bengal and weaken into a depression during next 06 hours,” a bulletin of the IMD issued at 12.20 PM said.

Rainfall likely at most places with heavy to very heavy falls and extremely heavy falls at isolated places over north Odisha, it warned.

Squally wind speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph very likely along & off Odisha and West Bengal and 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph likely over adjoining areas of north interior Odisha during next 12 hours, it added.

On the other hand, heavy rains triggered by ‘Titli’ severe cyclonic storm has caused flood-like situations in several districts of the state. The situation remains vulnerable, especially in Ganjam, Rayagada and Gajapati districts where the remote areas have been cut off due to the incessant rains after Titli hit the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast on Thursday morning.

The water is flowing above danger level in Vansadhara, Rushikulya and Jalaka rivers. A total of 16 blocks have received about 200-300 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours while 60 blocks received 100-200 mm rainfall in the state. Some blocks received above 300 mm rainfall.
