Delhi court summons Ollywood actor Varsha Priyadarshini for appearance over casteist slur

Bhubaneswar: The Patiala House Court in Delhi directed Ollywood actor Varsha Priyadarshini to appear before it on January 4, 2023, over alleged casteist remarks against Kendrapara MP Anubhav Mohanty’s staff.

The court has also summoned the actress directing her mother and sister to depose in connection with the case registered against them at the North Avenue Police Station in Delhi.

Varsha, her mother and niece were accused of using casteist remark and misbehaving with a staff of her husband and actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty, namely Sujit Dalei. Though the incident had occurred on July 9, 2019, the victim lodged the case in July 2022 in Delhi.

In this connection, an investigating team led by SP Mahesh Chand had visited Cuttack last month. They handed over the summon issued by the Patiala House Court at actor’s in-laws house at Nandi Sahi.

Earlier on July 30, Varsha, her mother and niece had moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case after receiving summon notice issued by Delhi police. Hearing the matter on August 4, the court had granted interim relief to the actor and other two applicants directing the police not to arrest them in the case till next hearing.
