Delhi-like PCR service to be installed in twin-city soon : DGP

In order to streamline the police control room (PCR) services in the twin city, the Commissionerate police will introduce a Delhi-like PCR service soon, said DGP Prakash Mishra while speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the passing out parade of 20th batch of Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF) here on Saturday.

“The Commissioner will soon visit Delhi to study the PCR service system there and after a detailed report from him, the new system will be introduced in the twin city in an organised way,” Mishra said.

“Our priority now is to install CCTVs at strategic locations in the capital city, besides upgrading the police control room service,” he said.

The Delhi based PCR new technologies is based on Global Positioning System (GPS)-enabled Police Control Room patrol vans which will reduce the response time in case of distress calls.

The technology will ensure a precise superimposition of GPS data on the city map for quick and real-time location of PCR vans that can swiftly attend to the calls, the DGP said.

While GPS is a satellite navigation system that supplies coordinates regarding location of any object fitted with GPS receivers with help from four or more satellites, the software platform analyses the vast data and layers relevant information on the map to enable the location of the object or PCR van, he said.

After six months of training at the Urban Police and Traffic Training Institute here as many as 490 constables of the Odisha State Auxillary force took part in the passing out parade. Out of them, as many as 381 will be posted as regular constables in the twin city.

Addressing the recruits DGP Mishra hoped that the recruits would discharge their duties with honesty and sincerity.

These constables have been trained to handle bomb disposal cases,  drill, scientific related training, weapon handling, map reading, karate, battle craft, field craft, internal security, border security and disaster management, besides training on  IPCs and CrPCs,” said Sarat Chandra Bisoyi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Training.

All the 490 constables of the new force belong to the Scheduled Tribes. Of them, 268, 113, 104 and 5 are from Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Koraput and Gajapati respectively.
