Delhi: Man chops live-in partner’s body into 35 pieces in Mehrauli, dumps them in forest over 18 days

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: In a highly shocking incident, a man allegedly murdered his live-in partner in Delhi’s Mehrauli, chopped her body into 35 pieces and dumped them in forest over 18 days during late night, reports said.

According to media reports, Aftab Ameen Poonawalla killed his live-in partner Shraddha (26) on May 18 by strangling her after a fight between the two.

The accused then chopped her body into 35 pieces and purchased a refrigerator to store them.

Over the next 18 days, he disposed of the pieces of the body at various places in Mehrauli forest during late night.

Shraddha had met Poonawalla in Mumbai, where she was working at the call centre of a multinational company. A love affair developed between the two and they later moved in together.

Both eloped and came to Delhi as her family members disapproved their relationship. They were residing in a flat in Mehrauli.

As Shraddha was not responding to her family members’ phone calls, her father, suspecting foul play, came to Delhi on November 8. He found the house locked and later filed a complaint with the Mehrauli police alleging that his daughter was kidnapped.

Police have arrested Poonawalla on the basis of the complaint. During probe, the accused revealed that the two were fighting frequently as Shraddha wanted to marry him, reports said.

A murder case has been registered in this connection while efforts were on by police to recover the body pieces.
