Demand for separate state: Lawyers body to call for Sambalpur Bandh next month!

Sambalpur: To mount pressure on Odisha Government, a lawyers body is likely to call for Sambalpur Bandh next month demanding a separate statehood.

Alleging step motherly attitude towards western Odisha, the Sambalpur District Bar Association is planning to hit the streets demanding a separate state.

The protestors may call for a 12-hour Sambalpur Bandh on November 2, informed Sambalpur District Bar Association President Sureshwar Mishra on Friday.

He alleged that the state government has always been neglecting the western Odisha. Even the government is not making a concrete decision over establishment of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court in western region of the state.

Besides, the government is yet to meet the demand for upgrading VIMSAR as the super specialty hospital.

“In this situation, we are left with no option other than formation of a separate state. We have received a proposal from various quarters demanding constitution of a separate western Odisha statehood. To intensify the protest, we will make a final call over observing Sambalpur Bandh after consulting with various oranisations,” Mishra added.
