Dengue outbreak in Barbil Municipal Corporation area in Odisha’s Keonjhar district is taking alarming proportions as the number of afflicted persons has risen to 49.

The disease is spreading its tentacles in Sriram Nagar and Upper Basti area under Barbil Municipality jurisdiction where 49 persons have tested positive out of 253 blood samples collected recently.

According to reports, a special medical team of four doctors from Bhubaneswar reached the affected area yesterday to provide treatment to the affected patients.

The team is collecting blood samples from various wards in the municipality and the civic body has launched awareness campaign too.

On Friday, District Collector Dr N Thirumala Naik and CDMO Dr Kabindra Prasad Sahu visited the affected area to take stock of the situation.

Poor hygiene and sanitation in the area are attributed to the spread of dengue in the region.
