Depression formed over Bay of Bengal; No warning for Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A depression was formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal in the morning and it is likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours. However, no warning has been issued for Odisha.

“A depression has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal and lay centred at 08.30 hrs IST of today, the 10th November, 2018 near latitude 11.7°N and longitude 92.5°E, about 20 km northwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 1340 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and 1390 km east-southeast of Nellore (Andhra Pradesh),” said Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, in a bulletin here today.

The depression is very likely to intensify into a Deep Depression during the next 24 hours and into a Cyclonic Storm during the subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards during next 48 hours and then west-southwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu – south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent 72 hours, the release stated.

However, the IMD issued no warning for Odisha.

During the period, the sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal on Nov 10 and 11; high over central parts of south and adjoining west central & adjoining east central Bay of Bengal from Nov 12. It is likely to become ‘very high’ over west central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal on Nov 13 and over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal on Nov 14.

The fishermen were advised not to venture into southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal on Nov 10, over central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during Nov 11 to 13 and over southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal from Nov 13.

The fishermen who are out in deep sea areas were advised to return to the coast before November 12.
