Depression likely to cross Odisha coast on Oct 11, heavy rain on cards

Bhubaneswar: A depression is likely to cross north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coast on October 11 triggering heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“A low pressure area is very likely to form over north Andaman Sea and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal on October 9. It is very likely to concentrate into a depression over central Bay of Bengal during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coast as a depression around October 11 afternoon/evening,” the agency forecasted.

Under its influence, Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Rayagada, Ganjam, Puri, Kandhamal, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall on October 11, the IMD said.

Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph very likely to prevail along and off south coastal Odisha districts, it added.
